The Beginning

This is a momentous time in healthcare. Our country is engaging in a dialogue on healthcare that has tremendous repercussions. While being at a crossroads is a little too cliche, there does seem to be many different directions we could head for healthcare. At the center of these crossroads lies the intersect of mental health and physical health systems - a false dichotomy of mass proportions that has failed to shake its historical underpinnings no matter what science and the communities we now serve say. A couple of main points and fundamental assumptions for this blog:

Mental health and primary care are inseparable, and any attempts to separate the two leads to inferior care.

Primary care is the largest platform of healthcare delivery in the country.

We know the critical importance of mental health, and we know the critical importance of primary care, but do we know the importance of integrating mental and physical health systems?

The blog is simple - it will address healthcare as it corresponds with providing care for the whole person. We are optimistic and motivated in our pursuit of topics relevant to integrated and collaborative care. Interested in healthcare? Healthcare policy?
